I suck at ‘no buy’! New finds + first impressions

So after the major hauling and general spoiling of self that was my birthday in July, I told myself August was going to be a ‘no buy’ month. It’s nearly the end of August and I’ve done a spectacularly crap job of it! Allow me please to excuse my epic fail and justify all of the following purchases in this very lengthy blog post!

The first thing that set me off was my LoveLula Beauty Box, with a 20% off the brands that were featured… so for me that was total temptation to buy PHB Ethical Beauty and Balm Balm. And a couple of other bits of course.

PHB Ethical Beauty Natural & Organic Eye Liner in Black

I bought this as I got the brown in the LoveLula Beauty Box and it’s fantastic. This one isn’t as black as I’d hoped, and I believe this is perhaps just a dudd pencil as I’ve spoken to other bloggers whose pencil is super black. Nevertheless I do love it. Goes on great, totally buildable and lasts well.

PHB Ethical Beauty Brow Define Brush

I’ve a few brow brushes and none of them really cut the mustard. This one is wide ish but super fine at the tip and I just find it amazing for applying my Hynt Eyebrow Definer and any brow powders. It deposits the product in the brows and doesn’t build up in the brush like my other brushes! Would definitely recommend this brush!

PHB Ylang Ylang & Patchouli Soy Wax Candle

Love a good natural and cruelty free soy candle. This is a fairly small size and would make a lovely travel candle. It smells dreamy!

Balm Balm Organic Neroli Floral Water Hydrosol 30ml

I love the rose and the chamomile hydrosols from Balm Balm so thought I’d try this one. It’s equally lovely, and since neroli is good for balancing oily skin and for fine lines and wrinkles, it is a good choice for me!

Alchemy Oils Amla Hair Remedy 30ml travel size

I’ve been wanting to try this for a while. I have been using a hair oil from Superdrug, which whilst cruelty free, isn’t all natural. This Amla oil is a blend of amla, avocado, argam, sesame, coconut and lemon. It’s ideal for dry hair and can be used as an intensive mask or as oil to use on damp hair before styling. It promotes growth and strengthens the hair. I’ve not used it as a mask yet because I’m impatient, however it’s beautiful as a styling oil. I’m excited to see how it improves my hair in the long term.

EcoTools Bamboo Skin Perfecting BB/CC Brush

I’m a big fan of EcoTools brushes. They’re sustainable, affordable, great quality and wash great. I’ve tried this with my Lily Lolo BB Cream and it does amp up the coverage but left a few brush streaks and I had to go in with EcoTools sponge afterwards. However it’s absolutely brilliant for blending my Hynt Duet Perfecting Concealer under my eyes and around my nose, mouth and chin.

Then later that week, as hubby is going to be getting a new tattoo, I ordered him the Lyonsleaf Calendula Cream 30ml.

He’s yet to try this but I’ve had a little go on my hands and it’s beautiful. It has a lovely, buttery soft consistency. Like all Lyonsleaf products it has an amazingly detailed description on Lovelula explaining the ingredients, benefits and uses. It’s vegan and completely natural and contains calendula, sweet almond, shea butter, apricot kernel oil, borage oil and essential oils of juniper, frankincense, lavender. It’s a true multi purpose product and I’m looking forward to see how it works on healing tattoos and other things.

In order to qualify for free postage I also thought I’d try the Maggie Anne Nail Polish in Olive.

I’ve yet to try this but I’m really loving the shade! A nice sagey green for the forthcoming Autumn season. I think I’ll do a dedicated review on this and other cruelty free and more natural nail polishes.

I thought my internet shopping spree was over for the month but then Cult Beauty had 40% off W3ll People and I’ve been wanting to try the Expressionist Mascara for ages.

I’ve got a couple of mascaras on the go at the moment, but this has rave reviews and I love the look of the wand. I couldn’t resist at just over £11 with the discount! As soon as I’ve used up my Hynt and PHB mascaras I’ll be excited to try this and give my review.

I also wanted to try the W3ll People Bio Correct Concealer but it was out of stock so I picked up the Nudist Multi-Use Cream Stick in Nude Berry.

A lot smaller than I thought it would be and doesn’t have a massive amount in the tube, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in creamy, blendable, pretty sheer berry colour. This clean and vegan stick can be used on lips, cheeks and even eyes. I’ve used it on the cheeks and lips and can be worn sheer or built up for a real pop. It lasts well too and looks and feels beautiful on the skin. I’m tempted to get another shade whilst the 40% off is still on… I’m a bit crazy on lippies and blushes!

Also been crushing on Spectrum brushes so whilst on Cult Beauty I picked up the C05 Dome Contour Brush.

I had wanted the tapered blending brush, but it was out of stock so I picked this one up instead. Even though it’s meant for applying contour to cheeks, something that I don’t do, it works brilliantly on the eyes to buff some colour into the crease, or in my case, above where the crease should be, since I have really hooded eyes. I do tend to struggle with blending brushes because of my lack of crease, so this actually works better for me. All spectrum brushes are synthetic and therefore vegan and cruelty free. I’m also amazed how soft and great quality this brush is and a totally affordable pricepoint. They are also now being stocked in store and online at Boots in the UK so I’ll be trying out more of these in future.

Hubby wanted to go to TK Maxx for new socks and I found this little gem, the This Works Lavender & Vetivert Candle. These candles retail at about £25 so I was amazed to find this for £12! With two of my favourite oils this candle smells amazing, and it comes in a chic white jar. I’ve looked online and I think this particular scent has been discontinued and so I’m feeling lucky to have found it and I’m going to save this one for best!

Also picked up these 6 Pure Organics bath bombs by Om SHE Aromatherapy for £8.99!

I’ve not tried this cruelty free Australian brand before so this is a nice introduction. These bath bombs are SLS and paraben free and there are 6 different scents to try in this box. If I like these TK Maxx seems to get a lot of Om SHE stuff in so might be trying more in future! And how cute is the packaging! Comes in a lovely box, would make such a cute gift. And it did… a gift to me and my hubby, bath bomb addicts!

I think I need to try harder at ‘no buy’ next month! Have you tried any of the products I’ve hauled? How successful / unsuccessful are you at ‘no buys? Or any recent finds you’re loving? Share the love people!

I haven’t put any product links or affiliate links in yet as I wanted to focus on getting this post up, as I’ve not posted in a week. All products were purchased with my own money and none of the items are PR or sponsored content. All opinions are honest and my own and always will be.
