Well it’s 1st September and I’m writing this Empties post from my sick bed. Having a particularly painful and exhausting IBS flare up right now. I’ve just got up and managed to take photos for this post and get all the empties in the recycling before the recycling truck arrives! And back to bed! I’ve got one dog at my feet keeping them warm and another down the duvet keeping my back warm.
I’ve finished up a lot of stuff this month so read on to hear my thoughts. I’m going to try and keep it short and sweet then I can get back to convalescing.
Here’s the household stuff I’ve used up this month. I love this Ecoleaf Fresh Linen Laundry Liquid Concentrate and Bio D Lavender Fabric Conditioner. I buy both of these from my local and beloved green cooperative, One Planet. You only need a bit and they are nasties free and cruelty free. They are highly effective and work out cheaper than conventional laundry products. A really easy green switch to make and products I will keep on rebuying.
I also used up a large Ecover Washing Up Liquid in Lemon & Aloe. Got this from One Planet but it is available at most supermarkets. Love this product and will always rebuy, very gentle and effective with a lovely scent.
A few Method products now, the Stainless Steel Cleaner (apple flavour), Glass Cleaner (mint flavour) and Bathroom Cleaner (spearmint). These are all cruelty free and kinder to the skin and earth than conventional cleaning products. They’re widely available at supermarkets now and are really effective. They are a bit more expensive than conventional products but they last longer. A really easy green switch to make. Wait for BOGOF or other offers and give them a try!
Also used up an Ecoleaf Fresh Blue Toilet Cleaner. I’m obsessed with the smell of this it is so fresh! I get this one at One Planet but again I think this brand is widely available online if not in your local green store.
I used a Pacifica Waikiki Pikake Candle which I got for half price from Holland & Barrett. It smelt gorgeous and I will definitely buy their candles again if I can find them on offer as they’re dear.
Got through two bags of bath salts this month, one Dr Salts Himalayan Bath Salts and one Westlab Epsom Salt. I bought these at TK Maxx for £3 each and I like to use them with essential oils in the bath. I prefer the Epsom Salts as they are a fine grain; the Himalayan Salt is more like a rock salt and more difficult to dissolve in the bath.
Also for the bath, I used up this Kind Natured Sea Salt and Bergamot Bath Soak. Me and hubby both enjoy this and have previously used up a Body Wash in the same scent. This is 97% natural, cruelty free, SLS free and smells gorgeous. Easily available in Boots and reasonably priced, we will definitely get this again.
From PHB Ethical Beauty, I used a Hand Cream in Olive & Aloe, Foot Scrub Bar with Dead Sea Salt and Orange and an Orange & Lime Sugar Scrub. Loved all these products available from Lovelula and would definitely repurchase. You can read my blog post on PHB Ethical Beauty here.
One thing I can’t be without is Aloe Vera gel and I used up this Aloe Pura one from One Planet and have already repurchased it. Just a great all round healing and moisturising gel. I also put this in a spray with water and essential oils to make my own itchy back spray, which works wonders.
The Glen Iorsa Lavender & Spearmint Calming Mist from Arran Aromatics was a present from my lovely mother. I love the scent of this and mostly used it on my bedding at nighttime.
Now onto haircare. It might look here like I use more shampoo than conditioner, but I actually used up the matching conditioners ages ago. The Jason Smoothing Sea Kelp Shampoo was OK but I don’t think I would repurchase it as I have found shampoos I prefer. The Sukin Purifying Shampoo was good but I prefer the Moisture Restoring range for my hair type. I also love that I can pick up Sukin at TK Maxx. The Rahua Shampoo & Conditioner is 100% natural and my absolute favourite. I had tried a sachet and then got these travel sizes as part of a free gift with purchase from Naturisimo. I’ve now repurchased the full sizes from Lovelula, taking advantage of a 15% off and using Lovelula points to bring down the price as they’re super expensive… but worth it! Then the John Masters mini travel sizes Lavender and Rosemary Shampoo and Citrus Neroli Detangler. These came in a Lovelula Beauty Box and I enjoyed them both very much. I’ve since received the John Masters Spearmint and Meadowsweet Scalp Stimulating Shampoo in a Beauty Box and purchased a full size one of that.
Henne Color Henna powder in Cooper. This is what I use to colour my hair. I’ve written a full blog post on this which you can check out here.
I didn’t finish much skincare this month, probably because I have a lot of it and switch it up quite a bit. I finished up a Lush Breath of Fresh Air Toner Mist. I love this stuff but won’t repurchase because it had Methylparaben in it. Used up a Try Me size of Blue Labelle’s Light & Balancing Facial Oil which is ideal for oily skin and will definitely get this again in a bigger size once I’ve used up my other facial oils. I’ve already repurchased the Laidbare DIY Cleanser. I got this one in a Lovelula Beauty Box and me and my husband love it. It’s his go to cleanser. The Madara Brightening AHA Peel Mask I received in a Beauty Box. I tried to get to like this but I find the smell unpleasant and I just don’t think my skin likes AHAs. I’ve had bad experiences with glycolic acid and this one contains a lactic acid. It stings my skin and I just don’t feel like it does anything for my skin. I’ll stick to my products with hylauronic acid in as they work for me.
Here are some samples I tried in August. The Lady Green Purifying Radiance Mask. I really enjoyed this and it smelt of summer berries, I would definitely buy the full size of this it left my skin feeling amazing. Yverum Hylauron Day Cream. I didn’t like this at all it smelt like a chemistry set. And it’s about £90 for the full size… I don’t think so! PHB Skin Perfect Gel with Aloe & Rose. I would buy this moisturiser in full size for summertime as it was really refreshing. Could take or leave the Jason Rosewater Hand and Body Lotion… I’ve products I much prefer. The Joik Silky & Luxurious Facial Serum is another sample I didn’t really enjoy. I much prefer my facial oils.
What products have you used up and which will you repurchase? Have you tried any of the products I finished this month? Let me know your thoughts.
