Hello peeps! Hope you are all well. Today I’m going to share with you my first impressions of this beautiful Discovery Kit from Isla Apothecary! I have been super curious about their products since the brand launched on many of my favourite green beauty websites. The products are hand crafted in small batches in London and made from raw, natural, organic and wildcrafted, ethically sourced ingredients. All products and ingredients are vegan and cruelty free. They have 12 beauty products in the line, as well as limited edition candles and various kits / gift sets.
I was browsing one day on Isla’s own website when I came across the Discovery Kit including 4 of their products in trial sizes. The box is £21 with 15% off the first order if you subscribe to receiving emails. So I thought this was a brilliant way of trying some of the products in the line.
First of all can I just say how luxe this box is! A beautiful matte white box, with the copper logo and it has a magnetic snap closure!
Inside you get these beautiful products in amber glass containers with shiny copper labels. I decided to use them this evening and have a little home spa which I will talk you through.
I started off by running my bath. I added a couple of capfuls of the Relax + Recover Bath Salts, which come in a generous 60g size. This contains Epsom Salt, Bergamot, Rose Geranium and Cedarwood essential oils, as well as dried Lavender flowers. The bathroom was filled with the beautiful scent of these essential oils, very relaxing indeed!
Whilst the tub was filling, I cleansed my face and mixed up a small teaspoon of the Refine + Radiate Beautifying Face Mask with a bit of water, and applied it to my face with a brush. You get a 20g jar in this box which is easily enough for 10 masks I’d say. The mask is really simple containing powdered coconut milk, red sandalwood powder and ground turmeric root, which are all great for the skin. Click here to see all the properties of the mask which are well worth reading. The mask can also be mixed with a floral water, hydrosol or honey.
With the mask on I hopped in the tub and relaxed in the soothing salts & oils whilst the mask worked on my face. I must say I was guilty of thinking this mask couldn’t do much with so few simple ingredients. But after 15 mins I wiped the mask off and was really impressed with its effects. My skin felt really soft, smooth and balanced (I have oily combo skin which is definitely a bit drier of late with the colder weather). I definitely think this mask would be suitable for all skin types as it feels unbelievably gentle. I’m going to mix it with local honey next time to make it easier to mix and apply. It’s worth noting that the turmeric doesn’t stain the skin but will discolour your cloth if you choose to wipe it off. Or you can simply massage it off with your hands and clean water.
I chilled in the bath for a good while longer and then opened up the Blood Orange & Vanilla Moisturising Sugar Scrub. Wow this stuff smells delicious, exactly like a Terry’s Chocolate Orange, which I adore at Christmas Time! The scrub contains raw cane sugar, coconut oil, shea butter, peach kernel oil, vitamin E, blood orange oil and vanilla absolute. It’s nice and scrubby without being too abrasive and the plant oils and butters leave your skin moisturised without feeling greasy. It’s really divine and I can’t wait to use this again. With a 60g jar in the kit, there is plenty to play with!
Following my bath I rubbed some of this wonderful Neroli Body Oil into my skin. I love the scent of neroli oil and this 15ml bottle contains a base of safflower, coconut, pumpkin and rosehip oils along with a beautifully scented blend of neroli, patchouli, frankincense, petitgrain & mandarin essential oils. I really enjoyed using the oil and it absorbed right into my skin with no greasy residue.
So overall, and as you probably can tell, I thoroughly enjoyed my first use of the Isla Apothecary Discovery Kit. I would highly recommend this if you want to try the brand, or I think it would make such a beautiful luxe Christmas gift, at an astonishingly fair price. In particular I loved the mask and the body scrub. I’m really looking forward to trying some of the other products in the line and am confident they will be effective, delicious and value for money. Next on my list will be the Wanderwood candle as it contains some of my favourite essential oils, and the Nourishing Hair & Scalp Oil.
