Hi guys, hope you are well! For this blog post I am going to be doing something a little bit different! I am collaborating with the gorgeous, lovely and talented BellaIzzy Makeup on YouTube and together we are going to bring you an entire, cruelty free get ready with us routine suitable for your Christmas party or any other special occasion. In this blog post I am going to share my entire step by step routine for pampering and preparing for the Christmas Party. Then I will link you to Izzy’s YouTube video where you can see how she does her makeup, hair and outfit for the Christmas Party! We really hope you enjoy our collaboration, get some good tips and cruelty free product ideas and hope you have a wonderful Christmastime!
OK so let’s get on with it!
So, the first thing I will do in preparation for my Christmas Party or special occasion is colour my hair. I’m not saying everyone should colour their hair for Christmas, it’s just that I have particularly grey roots right now and it’s well overdue! I always use henna to colour my hair, in particular this brand Henné Color. I will do this a few days to a week beforehand just so the colour is nice and blended in before the big night. I have a whole blog post on how I use this product to colour my hair here. If you don’t want to use henna, Superdrug’s own brand hair colours are a very good, affordable, cruelty free option. Or if you’re lucky enough to be heading to the salon, Paul Mitchell colours are cruelty free.
A couple of days before my party I will shape my brows and also tint these myself. I’ve just added a blog post on how I tint my brows with henna. The reason I shape my own brows is because I find waxing too damaging around my delicate (saggy, aged, hooded!) eye area and I stopped going to get them threaded as I felt the beauty therapist was taking too much off the top and ruining my arch, plus I could not be certain the tint was cruelty free. I got used to tweezing them myself and am so happy with the results that I didn’t bother finding anyone else to do them. Plus it saves me about £30 a month! If you’ve got someone you’re happy with to do your brows then lucky you!
Skip forward to the night before my do. I would do this during the day of the event if I were not working, but I am! I’ll start by having a long soak in the bath. My favourite is the Patchouli & Black Pepper Bath Oil from Bath House, it just smells so sexy and Christmassy! And I only need a couple of drops so it’s value for money (literally lasting me forever!)
After I’ve had a little soak I’ll take off any nail polish I’m wearing with a cruelty free nail polish remover such as this acetone free one from Superdrug. I like to soak my hands and nails in the bath first and then remove the polish whilst my hands are still wet, as I just find the polish slides off more easily.
I then use a solid body scrub like this PHB Sugar Scrub to exfoliate my hands and cuticles. I go in with a wooden nail brush too! I’d do the same to my feet if I was wearing open toe shoes, but I’m not. Plus I just had my toenails painted at a recent day spa so that can stay on for a while!
I’ll scrub my lips and stick on a face mask. I’m loving this combo! The Honey Lip Scrub I got from Lush back in May. It’s still going and I use it 3 times a week, so I would highly recommend this as its very effective and value for money! I love the Cup O Coffee mask too because it’s moisturising and balancing but also brightening and exfoliating because you scrub it off when removing it. It’s just amazing for my skin right now and it’s a really good prep step before skincare and makeup.
The product I like to use for shaving is the Dr Bronner’s Organic Shaving Soap in Lemongrass Lime. It’s all natural, vegan and cruelty free. It leaves the skin so soft too. I need a good shaving product because I’m a hairy beast! When I bought this in the Summer I didn’t enjoy the delivery method because the shaving soap is pretty fluid and just ran out the packaging. I put my other scent of this in a pump bottle and it worked a treat. This one’s fine now though, I think it has firmed up a bit being colder in my bathroom! I literally shave my legs, underarms, arms, hands, fingers and toes because otherwise it’s very noticeable and I don’t care for it. I’ll also admit I shave my upper lip as well. If I didn’t I’d be at the salon once a week getting it threaded and I don’t have the time or patience for that shit. I don’t find the hairs grow back any darker or thicker, and if it’s good enough for Tati it’s good enough for me!
I’m then gonna go in with a new body scrub I’ve used once before, the Blood Orange and Vanilla Body Scrub by Isla Apothecary. It’s so scrubby & nourishing and it smells like chocolate orange! If you’re looking for high street alternatives, all Superdrug own brand products are cruelty free. Their shave gels are really good and their Vitamin E body scrub is lovely too.
Then after my lovely soak and pamper I’ll wash and condition my hair with my favourite luxury range, which I save for best, the Rahua classic shampoo and conditioner. These are probably the most expensive beauty products I own, which I got for my birthday in July, but I swear, it’s worth the splurge and leave hair so soft and manageable, and smelling great til the next wash. In fact I need to write a whole blog post on why these liquid golds for hair are worth every penny!
To stay on the orangey theme I’ll shower off with this African Orange Aromatic Wash from Evolve and then ready to hop out of that bath as I’m getting a bit wrinkley!
Still more orange I’m using the Evolve African Orange Aromatic Lotion and the Isla Apothecary Neroli Body Oil. I’m loving this combo and after shaving I like to use the oil all over my body and the lotion on my dry patches… ankles, feet, elbows, knees. This would be a particularly good step if you’re wanting to use a self tanner. I’m afraid I don’t have any recommendations for that but I’ve heard that the Evolve and Green People ones are much loved by other green beauty bloggers.
For my nail prep I have really been enjoying the Glossworks Cuticle Oil which I featured in my recent November favourites. It does such an excellent job of softening the cuticles. I’ve been pairing this with the Beefayre Watermint & Rosemary Hand Cream that I picked up for a few pounds at TK Maxx, it’s really good! I have been using both on the daily now the weather has got colder and my hands so much drier.
The nail look I’ve decided on for my Christmas party, and since I’m wearing a dark green dress, is this combination of the Maggie Anne Nail Polish in Olive, topped with this Barry M Boots Exclusive polish in Galaxy Green. It’s not easy to tell from the photo (click on the link to see how beautiful this colours is) but this is a sparkly green purple duochrome, it’s super lovely!
Nearly there now and for skincare under my makeup I will go for something simple and super hydrating to make sure my makeup goes on smoothly. I really don’t enjoy primers but I love this Laidbare Working 9 to 5 Anti Ageing Cream for moisturiser. I also have been really enjoying this Kiwi Seed Oil Eye Cream from Antipodes. I find it particularly important to prep my eye area if I want my concealer and eye primer to go on nicely and for my undereye not to look crepey or creasy!
Now for lashings of my signature scent, Patchouli & Black Pepper by Bath House, which is a perfect oriental spicy scent for Winter and the Festive Season, and on to the makeup, hair and outfit portion of this collaboration with the beautiful Bellaizzy!
