Hey peeps and a very Happy New Year! 🎆💖✨
Thank you for all your love, support and feedback in 2017. I hope you are having a great start to 2018, and if you’re not I do hope things get better for you. If you are new here then welcome! If you are transitioning to Cruelty Free / Green Beauty, I hope you find my next little run of blog posts helpful.
I’m going to be sharing with you ALL of my Cruelty Free / Green Beauty Favorites of 2017. There are so many that I’m spliting them up… today is bath, body, hair etc and to follow will be Skincare, then Makeup! So stayed tuned for those. You may have seen some or a lot of these items in my Hauls, Favourites & Empties posts, but I just wanted to do a good round up and share my best and most loved products. I’m UK based so the links I share will be to UK stockists, but if you’re reading in another part of the world, many if not most of these products will be available… just google! I will mark Vegan products with a big 🇻 to make it super easy for those that want to avoid beeswax, honey etc. So let’s crack on as there’s tons to get through!
Bath Bomb ~ Lush Sakura, 🇻 200g, £3.75.
If I could save one bath bomb from never, EVER being discontinued, this would be it. This is the one I keep going back to when I want an extra special treat, and one of Lush’s most natural bath bomb formulations. It doesn’t do anything crazy to the water (no bright colours or glitter) just imparts the most delicate and exquisite floral scent, and the softest most snuggliest bath water. I literally stay in the tub for ages. Inspired by cherry blossoms in Japan, this heavenly concotion contains sodium bicarbonate, sea salt, lemon oil, mimosa absolute, orange flower absolute, jasmine absolute and gardenia extract. The only synthetics are fragrances (perfume and butylphenyl methylpropianol, a synthetic aldehyde. I have eczema prone body skin and have never had any sort of reaction to this thankfully, as I never want to stop enjoying the Sakura bath bliss!
Bath Salts ~ Ecobath London Skin Conditioning Epsom Salt Bath Soak with Neroli & Lavender, 🇻, 1kg, £9.99.
This is the old packaging and I picked these up for around £6 from TK Maxx actually, but if I can’t find them again I will get them from Holland & Barrett as above. I got them because they have a similar feel and scent to the Lush Sakura bath bomb but are better value. I’ve been through a few bags! Epsom Salts are really good for the skin and these are completely natural with only the addition of essential oils. Love the relaxing scent and the whole bath ritual!
Bubble Bath ~ Kind Natured Soothing Sea Salt & Bergamot Bath Soak, 🇻, 300ml, £4.99.
Discovered this brand in Boots and this and the corresponding body wash smell so beautiful and are among the most natural formulations on the high street. Currently on HALF PRICE at Boots, I’ll be stocking up. Hubby loves this too!
Body Wash ~ Antipodes Nirvana Hand & Body Wash, 🇻, 500ml, £14.99.
I literally lusted after this for months before I was able to purchase it with LoveLula points (the best rewards system, you get 10% back in points value on every purchase, incredible right!). It has been one of my most loved products this year. The smell just takes me back to picking blackcurrants with my Grandma (that’ll be because it contains blackcurrant leaf). Uts just heavenly… Nirvana! And I won’t stop using it… EVER!
Body Scrub ~ Isla Apothecary Blood Orange + Vanilla Moisturising Body Scrub, 🇻, 60g, part of Discovery Kit, £21.
Something else I lusted after, the Isla Apothecary line! I was so stoked when the Discovery Kit launched as it’s a brilliant way to try the brand. The kit contains this gorgeous scrub, as well as a face mask, body oil and bath salts. All products feature natural simple ingredients, and the products perform letting the natural stuff shine. The scrub smells like chocolate orange it’s just delicious!
Shave Gel ~ Dr Bronner’s Organic Lemongrass Lime Shaving Soap, 🇻, 207ml, £8.99.
I still haven’t found my holy grail green beauty shaving product that works like a conventional shaving gel, but this one is the closest I’ve found. It contains a bunch of super nourishing oils and does lather up great if you work at it. If you want a cruelty free, cheaper, non green beauty alternative, all the Superdrug own brand ones are cruelty free.
Body Oil ~ Blue Labelle Ylang Ylang & Frankincense Body Oil, 🇻, 100ml, £19.
I’m not a huge fan of body lotions or butters and much prefer to slather on an oil straight out of the shower or the tub. This has been my favourite. 100% organic plant oils and fragranced only with essentials, my skin drinks this up and stays moisturised and glowy. Looking forward to trying the Blue Labelle Divine Blend when this runs out, which is not too far off!
Deodorant ~ Salt of the Earth Natural Deodorant, 🇻, 50g, £3.49.
2017 was the year I switched from my cruelty free Superdrug spray deodorants to natural deodorants. I fell in love with one brand, but after a few months of use I developed a sensitivity to the bicarbonate of soda in it, and a nasty rash! I switched to this and have not looked back. It’s made from a natural mineral salt and it has never let me down even on the hottest and busiest days at work. Plus the little travel ones last me about 6 months!
Perfume ~ Bath House Patchouli & Black Pepper, 🇻, 60ml, £38.
Not a new find of 2017, but something I have been wearing for years. This is my all time favourite, signature scent. With patchouli, black pepper, mandarin, vanilla and vetiver, it’s the perfect spicy oriental. It’s made with 100% natural alcohol and it lasts a really long time on the skin. I also like their other scents Faith Is & Frangiapani & Grapefruit. You can buy online or in one of their few store if you’re visiting the Lake District.
Shampoo & Conditioner ~ Rahua, 🇻, 275ml, £28/29.
By far the priciest beauty products I have indulged in in 2017, after getting a sample and then a trial size of each in a free gift with purchase, I knew they were worth the investment. I bought this pair with birthday money in July and I still have plenty left. They are 100% natural, wonderfully hydrating to the hair, and smell divine thanks to palo santo essential oil. I find I don’t need to use anywhere near as much of these to wash and condition my hair, compared with other products, and I get an extra day out of my hair before I have to wash it again! Win all round, I love these, and they have really helped the all round condition and strength of my hair.
Hair Oil / Treatment ~ Alchemy Oils Amla Hair Remedy, 🇻, 30ml trial size, £9.
I love this stuff because I can put it on as a treatment overnight before I wash my hair, or use it on damp hair before drying or on dried hair to smooth frizz! It’s made with sesame, avocado, coconut, argan and amla oils and is scented with lemon essential oil. All natural, yummy goodness which strengthens the hair and promotes growth. They also do a brow remedy I’m looking forward to trying, though I do brush this through my brows at night if they’re are feeling particularly coarse and it works wonders!
Hand Cream ~ PHB Ethical Beauty Brightening Hand Cream with Neroli & Ylang Ylang, 🇻, 50ml, £10.95.
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you’ll have seen me rave about this over and over. And with good reason. Hands down (bah boom) the best hand cream I’ve ever used and neroli is also always a winner with me. I have eczema prone hands and I swear this has saved them from a red, itchy, blistery nightmare. First received in a LoveLula Beauty Box (March I think it was) and happily repurchased several times. I go through this stuff, but boy it’s worth it!
Cuticle Oil ~ Glossworks Nail & Cuticle Oil, 🇻, 9ml, £12.
I received this oil in a LoveLula Beauty Box and was at first a little underwhelmed. However with continued use it has really made a massive difference to my cuticles and nails! It’s the only thing that has actually softened and diminished my cuticles, which are really tough from working in retail (think lots of cardboard boxes and handling money). I’m definitely going to repurchase this little gem when I run out.
That’s it for my body and hair favourites of 2017. Next up will be Skincare! Thank you for reading!
